OIL PASTEL ART
As long as I can remember, all forms of art, and especially paintings, have played an essential role in my life.
In my own work, my medium of choice has always been oil pastels. While I enjoy utilizing conventional methods, and subjects such as landscapes and flowers, I am also drawn to step "outside the box" and to perpetually explore diverse subjects and new ideas for painting.
The inspiration to step outside, comes from two different sources, whose common theme is observing images from a certain distance.
One derives from having spent the greater part of the last thirty years analyzing highly magnified images under a microscope
The other comes from my awe of the night sky; and from the images of novas, supernovas, black holes and nebulas projected from the Hubble space telescope.
Surprising as it may seem, despite the millions of miles that separate these phenomena, they share many common visual features!!
With this in mind and with great modesty, I have attempted to shorten the distance and bring both worlds together in my work.
The greatest reward I could receive would be to enable the viewer of my work to experience places they have never been before.
